Welcome

The Novato Tennis Club is a spirited group of tennis enthusiasts consisting of approximately 200 members. Play occurs primarily at Pioneer Park which is centrally located along Novato Creek and surrounded by CA Bay Laurel, oaks, various pines, willows and Coast Redwood trees. There are 4 lighted public courts where most of the action takes place. The club also utilizes 5 courts located at San Marin High School for our Saturday Social Mixed Doubles drop-in from 9-11am, and also serves as host site for many of our tournaments.

The inception of NTC was in the fall of 1963 when three ladies gathered at Novato High School and needed a forth. The three who started the club were Greta Lamore, a local artist; Eileen White, the wife of a Colonel; and Lorraine Denny-Storms who worked at Novato High. The ladies also played at Hamilton Air Force Base, and called themselves Novato Women’s Tennis Group. These pioneering women also included 1957 Wimbledon singles finalist Darlene Hard who battled a strong serving Althea Gibson. Darlene was featured with a picture in the Novato Advance newspaper as our first instructor of a Novato Tennis Club clinic. In 1965 the club included 42 members and changed its name to the Novato Tennis Club.


The NTC offers various opportunities to join numerous USTA tennis teams. Access these teams by going to the USTA website and checking out both Pioneer Park and Novato Tennis Club under Clubs, or simply follow the link on this website. Beginning each summer, twilight teams are also an option. This is a very social league with matches scheduled on weeknights. After playing, players enjoy food, drinks, and swapping tennis stories. Whatever your level of play or involvement in teams, Saturday Social tennis is a good way to get involved with the club: hit balls, exercise and meet potential new hitting partners.
